House for sale in Cortona

Cortona, the ancient city that was allegedly founded by Dardanus, Aeneas’s son, was probably a city fortified by the Umbrians, then taken by the Etruscans between the 8th and 7th century BC, when it became an important city within the Etruscan Empire. Cortona had a flourishing life in the communal period and then under the lordship of the Ranieri -Casali family. The city was sold from the King of Naples to the Fiorentini in 1411 and from that moment on it followed the fate of the Granducato of Tuscany and was therefore under the rule of Medici family. Built on mount S. Egidio, the city of Cortona is encircled by its still observable big walls, smoothed by the centuries and the wind and interrupted by the ancient doors that link to the roads coming down from the valley. The tourists looking around from the high will see one of the widest and most harmonious panoramas in Italy: the fertile and immense Val di Chiana, the mounts of Siena, and much closer the great Lake Trasimeno. Thanks to its central location, Cortona is a headlight and an important access point to whole Central Italy. Tourists can easily reach the hills surrounding Chianti and Siena, the green Umbria, the shores of the Tyrrhenian and the Adriatic Seas and the most important Italian historical cities, such as Florence, Pisa, Siena, Rome, Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia. The area offers various kinds of properties, from the historical apartment located inside a medieval architecture to the typical country house or the prestigious villa.
