The Downtown Club is a newly refurbished condo development project, completed in 2006, of the famous NYC landmark: The Downtown Athletic Club. Housed in an Art Deco, terracotta skyscraper, this forty-five-story tower overlooks the New York harbor, with views of the Statue of Liberty, and the City alike. Just across the street is an abundance of parks and outdoor space that extend from Battery Park at the southern-most tip of Manhattan, to the George Washington Bridge, running alongside the Hudson River.
The Downtown Club was built by the famous architectural firm, Starrett & van Vleck, in 1930, whose buildings have often been made landmarks for their impeccable quality, style and historical value. Included in their designs were the New York City flagship stores of Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Abraham & Straus, and Alexander's. Other downtown Manhattan architectural gems of Starrett & van Vleck include the Everett Building (1908), the American Stock Exchange (1921), and our building, the Downtown Athletic Club (1930).
